Our snow pants are available in both Regular and Relaxed fits. But what's the difference? And which one should you choose? Let's drop in to our MONTEC pants shape guide.

The difference between MONTEC's Regular and Relaxed fits is the cut. Regular fit is Montec's signature roomy-yet-sleek shape, perfectly balancing mobility and style. Relaxed fit adds more space through the seat, thighs, and lower legs, with a slightly dropped crotch for extra freedom of movement.
Every MONTEC pant shares the same core build: a recycled polyester shell with 20,000mm waterproofing, 20,000g breathability, a DWR finish, fully taped seams, reinforced inner ankles, zippered hems, waterproof pockets, elasticated snow gaiters, and meshed zipped vents. Some models add lightweight 40gsm insulation, while the rest are shells. Let's dig in.
Choosing the best fit for you
MONTEC’s Regular fit pants create a clean, ergonomic shape. This Regular cut is designed for all-mountain use, with space for layering underneath and unrestricted riding, whether you’re shredding in resort, heading out of bounds, or spending long days in changing conditions. There’s enough room to move without these pants feeling overly loose or baggy.
The Fawk and Kirin pants feature MONTEC's Regular fit. The Fawk combines a classic bib design with one-point adjustable suspenders and a front zip opening. And the Kirin offers the classic pants style with suspender loops. Fawk is available as a shell or with 40gsm insulation. Kirin comes with 40gsm insulation for extra warmth.
MONTEC's Relaxed fit is designed for riders who want a little more room. This Relaxed cut is wider through the thighs and lower legs, with a slightly dropped crotch for extra freedom of movement and a looser overall silhouette. Whether you're layering up for colder days or simply prefer a baggier look, our Relaxed shape is roomier without compromising performance.
The Arch and Dozer are MONTEC's Relaxed-fit bib options. Their design features one-point adjustable suspenders and a built-in adjustable belt. They also have front zip openings for easy on-and-off convenience.
Performance is identical to the rest of the range. The Dozer comes with 40gsm insulation. The Arch is available as a shell or with 40gsm insulation.
All MONTEC pants are designed for all-mountain riding, so your decision comes down to fit, style, and whether you prefer a bib or classic pant. The Fawk is a great choice if you want the extra coverage of a bib combined with a slightly more tailored, Regular fit. The Kirin offers the same cut in a traditional pant design.
Prefer a looser silhouette, spend a lot of time in the park, or simply need more room through the legs? The Dozer or Arch are the better options. They’re also a popular choice for riders who find Regular-fit pants restrictive around the thighs. Whichever model you choose, you'll get the same durable recycled polyester shell and epic MONTEC performance.
If you're shopping for a top half too, our MONTEC jacket shape guide breaks down the cuts across the jacket range.
Fit and size aren't the same thing. A medium-sized Regular fit and a medium-sized Relaxed fit have the same waist size, as both are intended to fit the same person. The difference is in the “cut” and “shape”. For example, the Relaxed fit provides more room through the seat, thighs, and lower legs than the Regular option, creating a looser overall silhouette.
If you prefer a baggier look or simply want more space to move and layer, the Relaxed fit is the better choice. Sizing up a Regular model will make the design larger overall. However, it won't create the same shape or proportions as a true Relaxed cut. If you're stuck between two sizes, our MONTEC size guide walks you through FitFinder and when to size up or down.
Let’s check out some of the most commonly asked questions about fit and our pants!
Do I need a bigger size if the pants are insulated?
No, you don’t need a bigger size for insulated pants. That’s because MONTEC's insulated and shell designs are made with plenty of room, so you can simply choose your normal size. The insulation is low-profile and doesn’t add bulk. So, the fit remains consistent whether you select a shell model or an insulated version.
No. Sizing up to a Regular fit will give you a larger waist and more overall space, but it won't be the same shape as a Relaxed fit. Relaxed-fit pants are made with extra space through the seat, thighs, and lower legs, creating a different silhouette and feel than simply wearing a larger size.
No: fit doesn’t affect performance. Waterproofing and breathability remain exactly the same regardless of the shape. Whether you choose a Regular-fit Fawk or Kirin, or a Relaxed-fit Dozer, you'll get the same 20k waterproofing, 20k breathability, DWR treatment, and durable construction. The only difference is how the pants are cut and how they fit on the body.
MONTEC's pants keep things simple. Whether you prefer the balanced feel of a Regular fit or the extra room of a Relaxed fit, every model delivers the same rugged construction, superior tech specs, and snow-ready performance.
