Montec snow jackets come in three fits: Slim, Regular, and Relaxed. All three deliver the same on-mountain performance, so picking the right one comes down to how you want your jacket to look and feel.

Every MONTEC jacket is built on the same technical foundation: 20k waterproofing and breathability, eco-friendly DWR, and compact insulation. The difference between fits is purely cut. How close the jacket sits to the body, how much room you get through the chest and shoulders, and the silhouette you end up with on the hill. Some riders prefer a streamlined, athletic look. Others want extra space for layering or a looser, freestyle feel. Below, we'll walk through each fit, which jackets use it, and how to find the right one for your riding style.

Fit vs. sizing: what's the difference?
MONTEC's slim fit sits closer to the body and is slightly shaped through the waist, creating a streamlined, athletic silhouette without feeling restrictive. There's still plenty of room for movement and layering, so you won't feel constrained on the mountain. If you prefer a cleaner, more athletic look, slim fit is the way to go.
The MONTEC Moss is the only jacket in the range available in a slim fit. Designed specifically for women, it combines a more tailored silhouette with the same weather protection, comfort, and functionality as all the other jackets in the MONTEC range. For a closer look at how it compares to the regular-fit Fawk, see our Montec Moss vs Fawk jacket breakdown.
Regular fit strikes a balance between comfort, mobility, and style. It offers enough room for layering and unrestricted movement without feeling oversized or bulky. For many riders, it's the perfect middle ground, providing a comfortable fit on and off the mountain while maintaining a clean, versatile look.
If you're unsure which fit to choose, regular fit is often the safest option, as it works well across a wide range of riding styles and preferences.
Several of MONTEC's most popular jackets use a regular fit, including the Doom, Dune, and Fawk. These jackets offer a comfortable amount of room through the body while maintaining a balanced silhouette that's neither too slim nor too relaxed. If you're weighing up two of them, our Montec Dune vs Doom jacket comparison covers pullover versus front-zip.
MONTEC's relaxed fit offers a roomier feel through the body, shoulders, and chest. Featuring a slightly longer cut or drop-tail design, it creates a looser silhouette without sacrificing performance.
This fit is ideal for riders who prefer extra freedom of movement, want more space for layering, or simply enjoy a more laid-back, slightly baggier style. It's particularly popular among freestyle riders and those looking for a more modern mountain aesthetic.
The MONTEC Arch, Morpheus and Oracle feature a relaxed fit design. With extra room through the upper body and a longer overall profile, it's a great choice for riders who prioritize comfort, mobility, and a looser-fitting look both on and off the slopes. Choosing the right fit comes down to how you like your jacket to look and feel on the mountain.
One common misconception is that fit and sizing are the same thing, but they're actually quite different. Fit refers to the shape and cut of a jacket, while sizing refers to its overall dimensions. A medium slim fit and a medium relaxed fit are both designed to fit the same sized person, but they'll sit on the body in very different ways.
Because of this, sizing up won't change the fit of a jacket. Going from a medium regular fit to a large regular fit will simply give you more space overall, not the shape, proportions, or silhouette of a relaxed fit. If you're looking for a specific look or feel, it's always best to choose the fit that matches your preferences rather than adjusting the size. If you're not sure which size to go for, check out our MONTEC size guide for a personalized recommendation.
Want to know the answers to some of the most common questions we get about our jacket fits?
No. Warmth is determined by insulation or by your layering system. More layers or insulation means a warmer jacket. Our jackets come in both shell and insulated options, though, so you can dial in your warmth level! The same goes for waterproofing. All our jackets have 20k/20k waterproofing and breathability with an eco-friendly DWR treatment for superior on-mountain performance.
No. We use compact insulation, which adds warmth without bulk. Our jackets are all designed with plenty of room to accommodate this insulation. But if you’re wearing lots of layers or a puffy underneath, you may feel that the jacket is slightly ‘bulkier’ but not tighter. Stick to your normal size, even if you're picking an insulated jacket.
No. The slim cut is cinched at the waist and slimmer through the upper body, so sizing up doesn’t affect the shape of the jacket, it just means it’ll be roomier as it’s designed to fit a larger person than the smaller sized version. Regular cuts have more fabric across the waist, chest, and shoulders, so they’ll be more spacious for the same size jacket versus a slim cut.
Yes and no. A regular fit jacket still has plenty of room to move, but the key factor of the relaxed fit is that it achieves a slightly ‘slouchier’ look where the jacket will hang slightly lower and wider. Many riders size up a regular jacket for more space (lots of riders who wear size L midlayers or T-shirts might choose an XL jacket for the extra room!), and it definitely gives that oversized look, but our relaxed fit is specifically designed to give that feeling and look without being too large for the rider.
Well, that’s it! Hopefully, that clears up all your questions about the fits of the MONTEC jacket range. If you need to know more, or have any questions, do let us know on crew@montecwear.com and we’ll be glad to help you find the perfect jacket for the winter season!
