MONTEC joins TexRestore to extend garment life
MONTEC has joined TexRestore, a Swedish industry project working to give technical outerwear a longer, more circular life. Here's what that means for our products.
Since 2021, we've been working to give every MONTEC jacket and pant the longest possible life. Through Renewed, we collect, repair and recirculate gear that would otherwise be written off, alongside Tersus Solutions in the USA, and from 2024, RecoMended in Sweden. Now we're taking the next step.
How TexRestore works
MONTEC has joined TexRestore, a Swedish industry initiative hosted by Wargön Innovation. The project focuses on industrial restoration of textile products and on finding better end-of-life solutions for worn-out technical garments. Renewed has already shown what's possible at brand scale: reducing waste and giving garments a longer working life. TexRestore is about doing the same across the industry.
In the project, we're the industry partner bringing the real-world need. We contribute experience from Renewed, including insights from returns, warranty claims and repair processes, and we test new solutions on the kind of garments that need them most.
The technical challenge
Technical outerwear is where this becomes difficult. Waterproof membranes, taped seams, insulation and linings make snow jackets difficult to repair and recycle through standard textile processes. The goal is to keep a MONTEC jacket in use for as long as possible, and then route it into a recycling stream designed for these materials when that life finally ends. That's the gap TexRestore is built to close.
Linnea, working with Quality Assurance, joined the project on our behalf. "Our role is that of a needs owner," she explains. "We contribute experience from Renewed and from the challenges that arise when technical outdoor garments are given multiple lifecycles."
On what success will look like, she's clear: "For us, it means having effective repair processes, a partner with the necessary capacity, and a step toward a sustainable end-of-life solution. It will enable repairs at greater scale and strengthen both our operations and the customer experience."
Looking ahead
For MONTEC, this is the natural next chapter in what Renewed started. More repairs, at greater scale, with a real answer to what happens when a garment finally can't be saved.
