Fabio, kicking off our interview – what’s your earliest memory of falling in love with winter?

It's kind of crazy, but my first memory of skiing goes way back to when my mum taught me as a kid—I was just two years old. And I've loved it ever since.

What would your love letter to Winter say?

Dear Winter, I wish for a very snowy winter, with cold temperatures, plenty of sunny days, no injuries or avalanches—just a dreamy winter filled with beautiful memories.

What is your favourite skiing/snowboarding memory?

I have so many favourite memories, but one moment that stands out is from my second Freeride World Tour contest in 2013, in Chamonix. It was at this event that I successfully landed the cork 720 during my run.

Describe your perfect day on the slopes. Where are you, and who are you with?

It’s a cold, bluebird day, and a metre of fresh snow has fallen overnight. I’m on the mountain with two or three close friends, and we’re just having a blast together.

How does skiing allow you to connect with nature and the winter landscape?

First of all, I love being in the mountains, and I also really enjoy ski touring. My favourite thing is when I’m out on a tour, everything goes silent, and I get a second to truly appreciate the peace and nature. It’s amazing to be completely in the moment, with no distractions.

How do you prepare for the winter season, both mentally and physically?

Mentally, I spend a lot of time daydreaming about lines and tricks I’d like to try. Physically, I do a lot of gym workouts and focus on cardio too, like hiking, biking, or running.

What’s one piece of gear or equipment you can’t live without during winter?

It has to be my skis! But when it comes to clothing, my absolute favourite is the MONTEC’s Arch line.

Do you have any rituals or traditions before hitting the slopes?

When I’m riding a challenging line or attempting a specific trick, I always focus deeply on my breathing. Most of the time, I look up into the air, close my eyes, and run through everything again. Then my breathing calms, and I fully get into my zone.

How does using your MONTEC gear enhance your skiing experience?

I’m a huge fan of the Arch jacket and pants. I really love the cut and colours, and I appreciate the practical pockets, which are perfect for carrying my GoPro, iPhone, or even my gloves and ski goggles when I’m hiking or ski touring.

What would you say to someone who has never experienced winter sports, backcountry skiing, or touring but wants to start?

Equipment is really important for fully enjoying winter sports, and good-quality jackets and pants will protect you from moisture and cold. That way, you can focus entirely on the sport.

How do you stay motivated to keep skiing, even during challenging conditions or moments?

I enjoy pushing my limits, and the feeling I get after riding a cool line or landing a jump always motivates me. It’s such an incredible feeling.

Can you tell us your favourite place to ski and tell us why it holds a special place in your heart?

When I was still racing, I went to a boarding school in Montafon, and we usually skied at the Silvretta Montafon resort. To this day, it’s my favourite place because I know it so well, and it offers everything a skier’s heart could desire.
